How to read the tiles
- Green: The letter is in the word and in that exact spot.
- Amber: The letter is in the word, but somewhere else.
- Grey: No unused copy of that letter is left in the word.
Repeated letters are scored against how many copies the word really has. If the answer has one E and you guess two, only one of them can light up. Exact matches are claimed first, so a green E uses up the word's only E before any other guessed E is checked. Read how the two-pass scoring works.
How the daily puzzle works
- Answers come from a curated list of 704 common five-letter words. Guesses can be any word in a much larger dictionary, so you can use uncommon words to test letters.
- Your guesses are checked on our server. The answer is not in the page's code and is only shown once you solve it or use all 6 tries.
- The puzzle turns over at midnight in your own time zone. Puzzle numbers count up by one each day.
- Your progress and streak are saved in this browser only. Clearing site data or switching devices starts them fresh.
Daily Wordz and Wordz
Daily Wordz is the free, once-a-day version. Everyone gets the same word, nothing is staked, and the only record is your own streak.
Wordz in the arcade uses the same scoring with a fresh word every round and a virtual-coin entry. Solving in fewer guesses earns a larger virtual-coin reward, from 8.00x on the first guess down to 1.30x on the sixth. Coins have no cash value. Read the Wordz guide.
